October 16th is World Food Day. World Food Day is meant to bring people together to help end hunger around the world. This day also celebrates the Food and Agriculture Organization. This organization creates events around the world to create hunger awareness and to provide security for those suffering from hunger every day. This day focuses on the fact that food is a basic human right and should be available to all.

World Food Day was established in 1979, by Food and Agriculture Organization’s member countries. Since the early 1980s, this day has been celebrated in the United States, with different themes each year including farming and agriculture.

Speaking of food, farming and agriculture, Quaker Valley Foods has participated in a variety of charitable food events to include turkey giveaways for Thanksgiving, employee food drives each holiday season, food donations to a local police district, and some of our employees voluntarily working in local food kitchens – all to help those less fortunate. Quaker Valley carries a huge variety of food ranging from frozen vegetables, deli items, beef, pork, chicken and seafood. Below are some great recipes to enjoy for any themed World Food Day event.
