Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day! The feast of Thanksgiving goes all the way back to 1621, when the Plymouth colonist and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest together. This feast became a celebrated day for individual colonies and states for over two centuries. It wasn’t until 1863, during the Civil War, when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day a national holiday to be held each November. The day is filled with celebration, family, giving thanks and of course, food! The staple food that has become an icon for Thanksgiving is turkey. Nearly 90 percent of Americans consume turkey on this day, even though the Pilgrims did not necessarily have this at the very first Thanksgiving. Some other traditional foods that are heavily consumed on this holiday include stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn and pumpkin pie.
Although it may be too late to order for Thanksgiving, turkey is also a very popular favorite for the upcoming Holidays. Order your Holiday turkey today by visiting Quaker Valley Foods’ website!
