National Filet Mignon Day!

This week we celebrated National Filet Mignon Day.  Chances are that although you may have tried steak before, you do not realize what “filet mignon” is.  Did you know that filet mignon is French for “dainty fillet”?

Filet mignon offers a unique experience because it is so tender!  It comes from the most tender part of the tenderloin, which is why it is so coveted.  Typically, it is grilled and cut into one to two-inch portions.  Although the true origin of filet mignon is difficult to determine, the term “dainty fillet” was first used by O. Henry in his book “The Four Million”.  Steak was mentioned multiple times in his book to represent romance and a delicious treat.  Today, it is still popular to eat on Valentine’s Day.

Over the years, filet mignon has grown into a premier cut of beef.  In order, to enhance your experience, try using some of these tips.  First, spice up your filet mignon with dry rubs.  Second, wrap the filet in bacon to keep the meat tender.  Lastly, if you are feeling bold, stuff your filet with a food of your choosing.  Seafood is a popular food to stuff in filet for your next party.
