Preparing for Passover with Quaker Valley Foods!

This year, Passover begins at sundown next Wednesday evening, April 8th. Passover (Pesach in Hebrew) is perhaps the most widely celebrated Jewish holiday in the world. Along with Shavuot (marks the anniversary when God gave the Torah to the Nation of Israel) and Sukkot (remembers the Exodus and the dependence of the People of Israel on God), it is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals whereas the entire kingdom of Judah made a pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem. All three pilgrimages were originally tied to agricultural and seasonal feasts, but in time focused on Israel’s escape, by the will of God, from oppression.

Passover begins on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan and lasts for seven (progressive Jews) or eight (conservative Jews) days. The Passover celebration is kicked off with the Seder, a ritual that includes telling the story of escape from oppression, drinking four cups of wine, eating matzah, and celebrating freedom.
