It’s National Buffet Day!

Today is National Buffet Day, proving once again that there seems to be a day for just about anything. The history of the Buffet, as we know it today, can be traced as far back as the middle of the 16th Century. The term buffet applied to both the food served, as well as the furniture upon which it was served. Some claim that the Swedish smorgasbord was first introduced at the 1939 World’s Fair exhibition. It was a way to display the best of Swedish cuisine to a large number of visitors. In the United States, popular buffets are breakfast buffets and buffets served in a variety of Asian Restaurants.

“How to Prepare and Serve a Meal,” written in 1922 by Lillian B. Lansdown, suggests that a hot buffet typically contains such foods as “salads, lobster, potatoes, chicken, shrimp, with heavy dressings, hot rolls and sandwiches containing lettuce, tomato, deviled ham, etc. Quaker Valley Foods is here to serve most of your dining needs. We offer salads, chicken, a wide variety of seafood, ham, turkey, beef, lamb, goat, mutton and deli products to help make any buffet extra special. Give us a call today to see how we can best serve you!
