We’re continuing the fun of fair season with another blog! Like we mentioned last week, one of the main facets of county and state fairs is the showing of livestock. One program that participates in this is 4-H, a program for kids that teaches them about agriculture with hands-on experience. Through 4-H, kids are given the opportunity to learn about livestock by raising an animal from birth to auction. There are specific clubs within each program that focus specifically on pigs, cattle, goats, rabbits, and chickens. Once the animal is raised, it is typically brought to a fair to be showcased and usually auctioned. There are 4-H programs in every county in the country. These programs are a great way of helping young people discover where the many foods they eat come from.
